The New York City Business Integrity Commission (BIC) conducts background investigations and issues licenses and registrations to the following categories of Trade Waste businesses in the City:
- Self-hauler
- Putrescible carter
- Construction and demolition
- Trade waste brokers
The City also conducts background investigations and issues registrations to food wholesalers and businesses located or operating within a designated public wholesale market that possess good character, honesty and integrity. The City currently regulates four public wholesale markets:
- New York City Terminal Market (Hunts Point Produce Market)
- Hunts Point Cooperative Market, Inc. (Hunts Point Meat Market)
- New Fulton Fish Market at Hunts Point
- Brooklyn Wholesale Meat Market
