As of May 3, 2025, you must have a license to operate a hotel in New York City.
A hotel license is required if your business operates, owns, leases, or manages a hotel and controls its day-to-day operations. This includes the employment of the people who work at the hotel, by virtue of your ownership, management agreement, lease, or other legal construct.
You must have a separate license for each hotel you operate.
Fee
The fee for the full two-year license term is $350.
Expiration Date
The license expires on September 30 in even-numbered years.
